Announcements:

·        Ken let us know he has tickets for the Boston Bruins Rotary Night on Tuesday February 10th. Plus, he is hoping to get tickets for the Celtics. See Ken for details.

·        Our Rotary BOD has allotted $1000 to the Tippet Hospice House. In fact, they are trying to increase it through a District Simplified Grant, which would include other clubs. Recall our past member Merna Stanley was there in her last days, and, back in the late 1980s, Ron Sockol and other club members helped The Tippet House in their reconstruction.

·        January 19th Social Media workshop at the Sheraton Framingham. There will be two classes: one for absolute novices, and one for more experienced users. The event starts at 6:30pm. Snacks: no dinner: no charge.

·        Charles Nelson was recognized for him doing his first smoke detector visit. Atta-boy!

·        Rotary District PR Expo to be held March 20 at the Sheraton Tara.

·        Karen is spearheading finding homes for the GSE team coming in April from India. The visitors will be here for 5 weeks, and the District is in need of finding 3 day home stays for them. Speak to Karen

Bob Day’s Passing: Our entire club was saddened to learn of long time Needham Rotarian Bob Day. It was sent out last week, but recognize that Bob had 56 years of perfect attendance. That is quite a feat on it’s own! We went around the room and it was wonderful to hear of all the personal connections to Bob, and all the good he did for Rotarians and Needham citizens.

George Hoffmeister detailed how the family has specified two charities folks could send donations to, but remember, that is what the Needham Rotary Memorial Scholarship Fund was set up for. The interest and dividends from this fund are what we give to Needham High Students for scholarships. So, remember this worthy cause as well.

Birthdays:

Guests: Roberta Seligman from Griswold Homecare was with us for a second time, and is interested in joining! Justin Burkie, President Elect from  Brookline Rotary. He is going to be one the speakers at the ‘Social Media’ workshop. Bob Halpin, President of the Needham Newton Chamber of Commerce, and past Westford MA Rotarian. Last chance to welcome Melissa Jacoby to today’s meeting, as she will be inducted to membership. Welcome Melissa!

Welcome to our new member Melissa, and our guests. Debbie Donovan received a complete bill of good health from her surgeon! Atta girl!  And of course: Go Pats !
