Bill led us in the pledge of allegiance.  Karen took us through God Bless America.  PDG Mike Ellis led us in prayer.

 

This meeting was the transition meeting from Bill Rosenthal’s year as President to Charles’ Nelson year as President, with associated officers.

 

Announcements:

·        Crutches for Africa-  clean out your closet, basement, attic and give away your crutches, walkers, canes, wheel chairs to be loaded into a shipping container to help folks in Africa- See Karen

·        No meeting next week July 3rd

·        We are in the 4th of July parade. Those who can serve should report to Hillside Gardens on Great Plain Ave. at 8 am. Greg’s cell 617-710-2813

·        The YMCA is having their Road Race at 8:30 on July 4th. Meet at the Library for this 5K classic!

·        Louise passed out ‘Needham Bus Assc. Power Cards’ to all in attendance. These cards help to promote local businesses, and give each user a discount for using them.

Dr. Perry Rosenthal (Bill’s Dad) and friend Anita, Jenn Rosenthal (Bill’s wife) and their daughter Zelda (future Rotarian and always the life of the party), Barry Miller (close friend of Bills), Holly Brown (Jim’s sister), Susana Brown (Jim’s wife), PDG Mike Ellis, and DG Nominee Doug Detweiler. Wendy Cohen,  mother of Emily Cohen, a Needham Rotarian Scholarship winner from 2010, who is attend the University of Rochester.

 

Happy $$$:  Most of the happy dollars were to recognize Bill’s service to our club over the last year, and to wish Charles success in his year! Chris Teachout saw Gary Donelan at the street fair, and he says ‘Hi’ to everyone; Kathy Whitney for a month in Maine (see you in August Kathy); Scotty for a trip to Hawaii; Karen for success with ‘Crutches for Africa’.

George H for his 45th wedding anniversary (He is trying to catch Ron and Lois)!

50:50: Doug George had the winning ticket, but did not draw the winning card. Better luck next time. $ 54 in the pot.

 

Scholarship Thank You:

Emily Cohen’s Mom Wendy, read a letter from Emily, who is going into her Junior year at the University of Rochester. She is working at the school this summer, and will not be coming home, but went on to say how important our scholarship has been to her. Great letter of appreciation!

 

Guest Speakers: First, Bill reviewed the accomplishments of his year. Including showing a video he made. It is very good and is on ‘You-Tube’ at:

Bill then went on to award two people Paul Harris Fellowships”

 

-Holly Brown (Jim Brown’s sister) who has been a consistent giver of time and effort in assisting Needham Rotary in bunches of our Club’s activities over the years.

-Greg Cronin, our Sgt. At Arms, for his dedicated and inspiring service to our club (Sgt. At Arms, 4th of July Parade, Memorial Park, etc. etc)

Congratulations to both of you!!!

 

At the same time, Bill inducted Deb Kazarian, Asst. Manager at Family Federal Savings, as a new member in our Club! Congratulation Deb! Welcome aboard…

 

PDG Mike Ellis then performed the induction of Charles Nelson.  Charles was tasked with being an ‘instrument of peace’ as this years Rotary theme is “Peace  Through Service”. Very fitting!!

 

Charles then went on to induct the new officers and Board members for this year.
