GUEST SPEAKER: Harvey Leonard, Chief Meteorologist of WCVB Channel 5.
Harvey has a BS in Meteorology from City College of NYU, and a Masters from NYU as well.has been in weather
since 1977, and in 1984, 1985 and 1988 he was voted New England's Favorite
Weather forecaster. We was on Channel 7 for many years, and then in 2005 came to WCVB, Needham's TV Station.

He was the first weather forecaster to predict the intensity of the 1978 blizzard. His funniest story was
about a number of viewer complaints he received for a storm prediction on Dec. 23, 1998. He received several
really horrible complaints from people about how wrong his weather forecast was. The only problem was
that he and his entire family were in Europe at the Holidays, and he was not working!

He is the first to acknowledge that 'Global Warming' is a reality, although it might have been tough
to see that this past winter. He says 97% of all meteorologists agree. Weather is day to day,
while climate is the average of weather over time. He did point out that the sea level is rising, and
growing seasons are expanding.

Harvey Claims that the 'Farmers Almanac' is usually 100 percent accurate! At least for tide times,
sunrise and sunset times.

He prefers winter weather forecasts, not spring and summer where the weather can be very localized.

Harvey was obviously enthusiastic about his profession, and did a wonderful job of speaking off the cuff
on his favorite topic.

Watch him nightly on WCVB.
