Bill led us in the pledge of allegiance.  Karen took us through God Bless America.  Reverend Skip Windsor led us in prayer.

 

Today’s meeting was celebrating the wonderful memory of Bob Day.  Joining us for the celebration were members of his family, Needham Selectmen and State Representative Denise Garlick.

 

Announcements:
·        Crutches for Africa-  clean out your closet, basement, attic and give away your crutches, walkers, canes, wheel chairs to be loaded into a shipping container to help folks in Africa- See Karen

·        No meeting next week June 19 – INSTEAD we are having our annual cookout at 6 PM at Claxton Field.  Ryan and Dan are coordinating!  Bring your appetite!

Members of Bob Day’s family: Bill, Tim, Christine, Patricia and Carolyn.  David and Gilbert Cox, Selectmen Dan Matthews, Jerry Wasserman, Matt Borelli, Moe Handel, Dr. Perry Rosenthal, Anita Sperber, Denise Garlick (State Representative), Skip Windsor, Kathy Lozano (new member!), Susan Stanton (new member!), Eric Roseen (new member!), Ilene Freidel (mother of Melissa Jacoby), Scott Fagan, Nick Desmarais, Katie Paulson and Francis and Candice Condon!  WOW, what a distinguished guest list!

 

Guest Speakers: Bill Rosenthal started off by recognizing all of the Day family members who had assembled in recognition of Past Rotarian Bob Day, who had just celebrated his 100th birthday before passing on. Bob had been a member of Needham Rotary for over 54 years, and had perfect attendance for those all those years. Quite a feat!

Rick Davis and George Hoffmeister remembered Bob with personal stories of their first meeting Mr. Day and the type of great person he was.  He was the model Rotarian, generous with his time and money to help those less fortunate.

 

Rotary International President Kalyan Banerjee sent a letter of appreciation, recognizing Bob’s 56 years of perfect attendance.

 

State Representative Denise Garlick presented the family with a Letter of Commendation.

 

Chairman of the Needham Board of Selectman Jerry Wasserman shared with the audience his memories of Mr. Day and a thank you for his service to the town of Needham.

 

Bill Day presented Tim Day with the Paul Harris Fellow.  Bob Day had accumulated extra points as a Paul Harris Fellow and it was with great pride that Bill (Bob’s son) was able to award Tim (Bill’s son) with the honor.

 

Bill Day thanked all those in attendance.

 

George and Ryan announced that $650 had been raised in memory of Bob Day for the Scholarship Fund.

 

Induction:
We inducted two new members, Susan Stanton of Wingate and Kathy Lozano of the Needham YMCA.  Bill and Charles did the honors and both new members were warmly received by the audience. Welcome!!!

 

Happy $$$:
Most of the happy dollars were in memory of Bob Day and the guests in attendance as well as the induction of our two newest members.
