Guests: Marty Linderman from the Seattle Rotary Club.

Happy $$$: Scotti for his mother in law staying in the ‘Frank and Louise Condon Room’ at Glover Hospital, and his upcoming trip to Viet Nam; Chris for them finding the Medford teen lost while skiing in Maine; Chuck (not sure it’s a happy dollar) for his daughter being accepted for a 5 year Master’s program at UConn; Bill Paulson for for the softball season starting up; Louise in memory of Jerry Wasserman; Greg Cronin for ‘spring’s arrival (Well, it is Friday morning as I type this. There is 10 inches of snow on the ground, and it continues to snaow at about an inch an hour: what Spring ?); Erica Bond-delighted to be here, even if late; Brenda-great weekend with her boys! Lots of HTBH and for our guests.

Birthdays: None this week.

50:50: Looking for queen of diamonds: recall that last week George Hoffmeister had the right ticket, but we had no cards, so the card-pull was delayed until this week. George was out of town this week, so he gave his ticket to Tom Savino, who so generously offered to pull George’s card for him (for a 50/50 split). Anyway, Tom pulled the card, and while it was a face card, they were still losers.

Then, new ticket sales surged in and Roz was the lucky ticket holder this time, but to no avail. The pot is above $650, and we are down to 73 cards. Stay tuned….

Joke of the day: Provided by Doug George.

IF YOU MARRY AN IRISH GIRL:

The first man married a woman from Italy. He told her that she was to do the dishes and house cleaning. It took a couple of days, but on the third day, he came home to see a clean house and dishes washed and put away.

The second man married a woman from Poland. He gave his wife orders that ...she was to do all the cleaning, dishes and the cooking. The first day he didn't see any results, but the next day he saw it was better. By the third day, he saw his house was clean, the dishes were done and there was a huge dinner on the table.

The third man married a girl from Ireland. He ordered her to keep the house clean, dishes washed, lawn mowed, laundry washed, and hot meals on the table for every meal. He said the first day he didn't see anything, the second day he didn't see any improvement but by the third day, some of the swelling had gone down and he could see a little out of his left eye, and his arm was healed enough that he could fix himself a sandwich and load the dishwasher…..

Guest Speaker: Our guest speakers were Brian Hanna and Tom Stirling of Stirling Technologies, computer consultants who specialize in ‘Social Media’. They create websites, web applications and mobile apps and consults on social media and technical infrastructure. They started their presentation with a video from You Tube. I suggest you watch it if you have not seen it. It is quite compelling! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUCfFcchw1w

The main thrust of their presentation was that Social Media is the marketing vehicle to use in the 21st Century! Face Book, Linked In, Twitter are all the tools that the new consumers are using. The fallacy is that you can’t generate new customers by doing this. Well, you can!

I think everyone in the audience was intrigued with but not fully comprehending how we can all use Social Media. This led to a discussion about Needham Rotary’s web site and Facebook page. Have you ‘liked’ our Facebook page ?
