Announcements:

  • February 14th : Club Assembly-open meeting.
  • Karen is still looking for members to host the inbound GSE team from India.
  • Karen announced that the Bandy Heffler exchange is coming this fall. Think about hosting a British couple or single, for 3+ DAYS. This is a lot of fun, and would entitle you to return to the UK on the 2014 trip over there.

Guest Speaker: Wolfgang Flotgrat of Needham’s Emergency Management  Agency, a division of the Fire Department. Wolfgang spent 32 years in the defense industry, and is now a volunteer for the Fire Department’s Emergency Management Agency.

These folks are charged with being prepared to handle virtually any large scale emergency in Needham. The recent weather and floods are a good example. Needham’s public shelter is now located in the high school.

Wolfgang stressed that 911 is for emergencies, while dialing 211 is for all other questions.

This sounds like a very active and robust group. See www.needham.ma.gov.
