Guests: Gary Zellin and our District Governor Doug Detweiler, our speaker for today

Roz led us in the welcome song.

Announcements:
-Please pick up your shirts from Rich if you ordered them, and please pay Rich if you have not.
-Music Fund Raiser is on 10/19. We also reserved the 18th. Shortly we’ll decide wich night it will be, Friday or Saturday.
-Bill and Glen are working on the final numbers pancake breakfast with the Little League, hoping to have them next week. However, Little League might not want to join us next year, as their ‘take’ apparently did not meet their expectation. So we might be back to the fall schedule. Stay tuned.
-There is an Eagle Scout Court of Honor on 8/17 at the Greendale Ave worship center at 5 PM. Rotary supports the scouts. If you would like to do the presentation, the club is looking for someone to do the presentation. Contact Glen if you want a fun time.
-Bill Paulson made a pitch for a home for one more exchange student. He needs a local family to host this student from Brazil for 3 months, Sept. Oct. Nov. Bill is not desperate yet, but the time is coming!
There were no Birthday Wishes

Happy Dollars:
Greg Cronin for the work that he did at Memorial Park
Louise for her granddaughter who is in remission
Roberta was happy to entertain her brother from Toronto and her daughter from Santa Monica
Many happy $ for vacations and htbh
And of course Happy Dollars for having our District Governor.

50/50: Dan Tibma (#445) picked out the Queen of Diamonds (close), not the King. He missed the $136.00 pot.

Guest Speaker:
Doug Detweiler first honored Ron Sokol for becoming a multiple Paul Harris fellow. Congrats Ron!

He then handed out dual flag pins- The American Flag and the Rotary flag with a “7910” on it, our district.
He spoke about Rotary and how our membership has remained steady over the past 10 years. We have 1.2 million members world wide. He then explained the power of foundation. Last year for each tax deductible dollar we sent to the foundation we got back $2.80 for our programs in the District. This is aided by Bill Gates who has donated just under $ 1.2 billion dollars to the foundation for the Polio Plus program.

He urged us to talk up Rotary in order to improve our public perception. He suggested that we consider supporting “Stop Hunger Now”, a meal packing program out of Raleigh, North Carolina. Perhaps we (district 7910) could commit to offering one million meals to the hungry. Hmmmmmmmmmmm! Wouldn’t that be a good way to promote Rotary. See www.stophungernow.org

See Doug hoding a food packet prepared by the Beford Rotary Club.

Our club will try to get the guest speaker from 'stophungernow' to come to speak to our club.
