Minute of Weekly Meeting

Tuesday:     November 26, 2013

Location: Wellesley Community Center

This was our annual joint meeting with Wellesley Rotary, where we meet to recognize the Needham and Wellesley football teams who meet on Thanksgiving Day. This is the 131st game between the two teams, and is the oldest high school football rivalry in the country.

All the administration, football coaches and seniors for both Needham and Wellesley Football teams were present at the dinner, and it was a wonderful event. Unfortunately, Wellesley prevailed in the actual game on Thursday 22 to 6.

 Reminders:

  • Don’t forget the pot luck dinner at Erica’s on Thursday December 12th. Sign up now!
  • Karen told us that she will be collecting money for gift cards for Community Council at the party or at anytime..        
  • Jim Brown is still looking for volunteers to ‘Ring Them Bells’ for the Salvation Army at Sudbury farms next Saturday. Contact Jim at 781-248-9632.

Guest Speaker: Richard Johnson, curator of The Sports Museum, was the guest speaker. The Sports Museum is located on the 5th and 6th floors of the TD Bank Garden in Boston, and is home of lots of memorabilia of the Boston  sports scene.

Richard is a graduate of Bates College and has been working at The Sports Museum for years. An unabashed fan of Boston sports, told us we have much to proud of in that Boston has:

            -3 Superbowls

            -2011 Stanley Cup winning Bruins

            -17 Celtics flags in the rafters

            -Home of the 1998 Ryder Cup

            -Home of the Boston Marathon

            -Harvard Stadium, the oldest concrete college stadium built in 1903

            -Oldest ball park, Fenway built in 1912

            -Boston Arena  built in 1910.

He went on to say that Boston has the best fans in the country, and the best sport writers at our two newspapers.

This was very meaningful for all in attendance at this special football dinner.
