President Charles led us in the Pledge of Allegiance, Bob Cocks led us in singing God Bless America and Karen Wetmore led us in prayer.

 

 

Announcements:  

  • Ken, David, Bill Rosenthal & Charles Nelson discussed the meeting with juniors and seniors at Needham High School on Friday the 5th hoping to build Rotary awareness and start an INTERACT Club there.
  • Darryl will be sending out emails regarding helping with the Thanksgiving dinner.
  • Pancake Breakfast on Sat. 11/3 from 7am-2pm at Needham High School; Glen Davis asking for names of helpers – Wally will be present along with Fire Engines from the Needham Fire Department
  • BID Needham gala being held on 10/26/12 at Newton Marriott – Kathy and Louise are looking for quickie board donations.

Happy $$$:  Glad to be here; welcome guests; thank you to Wingate for being so good to Erica’s parents; Doug George glad to have moved son from Southie; Ted gave update on Jose David a 12 year old from El Salvador who is doing well after open heart surgery in Portland, ME; Chris Teachout finished his first marathon; Scott MacFarlane happy to see Hank Abbott at Centre Café in Needham and Louise Condon reported Chair to Remember event was a big success.

Guest Speaker: Kelly MacLean Clark of Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Home Base Program spoke of how they help New England Veterans suffering from post traumatic stress and brain injuries.  They work with VA and DOD to support the invisible issues of veterans. There are 3 components to their efforts: 1) Clinical Care for veterans and their family members and is available at no cost to all veterans; 2) Education  - training clinitians to work with veterans and 3) Research  - MA General has largest research component through this program.
